OPEN HOUSE 2012

Thursday, March 8th

7:00 PM

We warmly welcome our new students and new staff members to the École J.H. Picard School where we share a true sense of family.  We are the only full French Immersion kindergarten to grade 12 school in Western Canada.  Elementary, junior high and senior high are located on a different floor. Although the different levels run separately, the richness of educational experience is found in the many opportunities the older students have in leadership to teach, provide workshops, and mentor the younger students.

The students at J. H. Picard receive instruction in French in all core subject areas except English Language Arts.  As immersion students, parents do not have to be French speaking.  Research gives evidence that learning two languages increases academic potential.  Our students graduate with fluency in French and English opening wide the doors of opportunities in their future.

As an Academy of Fine Arts, the students have the opportunities to develop in many domains.  For some this leads to professional careers and for all students they gain in skill development that they will use throughout their lives. We are proud of an award winning program.

J.H. Picard also offers the rigorous academic program of Advanced Placement for motivated high school students where they receive courses and credits at the university or college level.  Between AP or IB, both are programs with the same end result as they are equally recognized by post-secondary institutions.  High School programming at J.H. Picard is based in each student's goals through personalized programming.  For some of our students, accelerated programming and learning makes high achieving goals possible where students are very successful.

We are proud of our students at J. H. Picard because they not only work hard, they are active leaders in the school.  Our students can be involved in many programs, teams and clubs which yield many scholarships and awards, develop many lifetime skills, and friendships.

We look forward to this year as we strive for excellence in learning and in providing opportunities for students to discover and culture their talents.  Our students are dedicated in taking many opportunities to develop their God-given talents and generously sharing them with the community through many productions, performances, teams, and service projects.  The school spirit is noted everywhere we go both in the manner we support each and every one, and in the pride we share as a school.  Students together share many precious memories and accomplishments.  The numerous opportunities to be involved in the school as leaders wins our students many scholarships and awards.  We are blessed with the parents, staff, and students as we work together making J. H. Picard the school of excellence.

Sincerely.
